W016 North Sea Reservoirs Series - Permian Zechstein Carbonates Overview
W016 North Sea Reservoirs Series - Permian Zechstein Carbonates Overview
Fundamental knowledge regarding Zechstein depositional environments of the Southern Permian Basin will be shared by integrating core, well and seismic data with modern analogues and classic outcrops.
Although the workshops are organised through the lens of reservoir geology, other petroleum systems elements will be discussed (seal, trap, source, charge and timing).
This course has been designed to be delivered as a short but impactful learning experience over one day (via 4 webinar sessions). These courses can also be delivered via staggered webinars across a number of days (depending on the clients preferred delivery mode).

This course will benefit any subsurface professional working on the Zechstein play in the North Sea. The course is aimed primarily at geologists but geophysicists and reservoir engineers will also benefit from a deeper understanding of this reservoir type.

Background
Peter is a director and carbonate specialist at Cambridge Carbonates Ltd, where he works on reservoir characterisation studies, regional play evaluations, multiclient studies, exploration projects and training for both the oil and gas and geothermal industries.
After completing his PhD on Dinantian carbonates, Peter was employed by Britoil from 1983 to 1985, where he had several roles including well site geologist on various UKCS wells, development geologist on the Thistle Field, and sedimentologist in the Strat Lab. In 1985, Peter moved to City of London Polytechnic as a senior lecturer teaching courses in sedimentology, micropalaeontology, petroleum geology and stratigraphy. He also researched Dinantian carbonate platform evolution and sedimentology. In 1990, Peter became an independent consultant to the petroleum industry as a carbonate specialist and started Cambridge Carbonates Ltd. in 1992.
Peter has particular expertise in late Palaeozoic carbonate and evaporite systems of NW Europe, in particular the Dinantian and Zechstein of the UKCS and related areas, and the Barents Shelf of Norway and Russia. Peter has also worked on Mesozoic carbonate reservoirs of Mexico, Tethyan carbonate reservoirs of the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa, and Cenozoic reservoirs of SE Asia. His special interests are in karst, brecciated and fractured carbonate reservoirs, and the interaction between salt movement and carbonate sedimentation. He also teaches courses on general carbonate sequence stratigraphy, facies, diagenesis and reservoir quality.
